what is somatic experiencing?
somatic experiencing (SE) offers a trauma healing approach that emphasizes the body's inherent wisdom. by tuning into bodily sensation, like tightness, fluttering, or heat, SE helps individuals track and release the energy of past trauma, restoring balance to the nervous system and fostering greater resilience.
SE is about more than just physical sensation. it’s about cultivating a deep, mindful awareness that connects us to the present moment. this approach invites a subtle sense of attunement, where the body’s sensations guide the way toward healing and integration, offering a quiet but profound shift in how we relate to ourselves.
by honoring the body’s cues with patience and presence, SE creates space for a healing process that not only resolves trauma but also fosters a deeper sense of groundedness, awareness, and connection to what lies beyond our individual experience. this approach supports the unfolding of both emotional and spiritual wholeness, offering a pathway to healing that’s deeply anchored in the wisdom of the body.
while there are many, many different somatic practices, all grown from the roots of Indigenous ways and wisdom, the somatic experiencing that i practice was developed by Peter Levine.
